Why is Toy Tea charging for admittance for the first time?
For over three decades, Toy Tea has been dedicated to helping children living in over 27 shelters for battered women by providing new, non-violent toys for the holiday season. As a non-profit with no salaries or rent, Toy Tea is proud to be one of Canada's charities with the lowest overhead.
The annual event began in Ginger Petty’s personal residence and was privately funded. As the event grew in popularity and we received more donations, we moved the event to Ogilvy’s department store and then to other public venues in the city. This year, we are changing our model to ensure that our commitment to helping hurting children continues for years to come.
For the first time, there will be a ticket fee for admittance to the Toy Tea. Each ticket sold will enable us to purchase four brand new toys wholesale, age and gender appropriate and with equal value, and will ensure our event's efficiency and sustainability.
